About the Role

Constable Country Rural Medical Practice are currently seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and proactive Medical Receptionist to join our busy reception team on a casual/bank contract.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety and flexibility. As a Bank Receptionist, you will provide cover across both practice sites and will be called upon to support the team during periods of annual leave, sickness absence, training and other staffing shortages.

Flexibility is essential. We are looking for someone who can make themselves available to work a wide range of shifts and be willing to accept work at short notice where possible. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring continuity of service for our patients and supporting the wider reception team.

Shifts may be available Monday to Friday between 07:45 and 18:45, depending on the needs of the practice.

Applicants should be aware that the ability to regularly pick up shifts and provide cover throughout the year will be a key requirement of this position. This role is not suitable for someone seeking fixed weekly hours, as hours will vary according to the needs of the practice.

As a Medical Receptionist, you will provide a professional and welcoming first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.

Duties include:

  • Answering telephone calls in a polite, professional and efficient manner.
  • Supporting patients to access the most appropriate appointment or service for their needs.
  • Managing appointment bookings accurately using the clinical system.
  • Processing patient queries and requests promptly and appropriately.
  • Liaising effectively with GPs, nurses, administrative staff, patients and external organisations.
  • Processing prescription requests in line with practice procedures.
  • Providing test results to patients as directed by clinicians.
  • Handling specimens in accordance with practice protocols.
  • Taking payments for private services and issuing receipts where required.
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe reception and waiting area.
  • Completing administrative tasks accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Supporting colleagues and assisting with other reasonable duties as required by the Practice Management Team and GP Partners.

Please note that this list is not exhaustive and may be amended to meet the needs of the practice.

If you are looking for a flexible role where you can make a real difference to patients and support a hardworking team, we would love to hear from you.

About the Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has good attention to detail and strong administrative skills.

  • Can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Is flexible and willing to work across both practice sites.
  • Is able to provide regular availability and assist with covering annual leave, sickness absence and other staffing shortages.

Previous reception or customer service experience is desirable. Experience within General Practice or Primary Care would be advantageous but is not essential. Knowledge of SystmOne would be beneficial; however, full training will be provided for the successful candidate.
