About the Role

South Street Surgery in Bishops Stortford has an opportunity for a receptionist to join our team, on a full time basis for 36 hours a week, ideally 4 full days from 8am to 6pm. In addition, occasional Saturday mornings on a rota basis from 7.45am - 11.30am. 

We are ideally looking for someone with NHS and SystmOne experience. 
 
In this essential front-line role at the practice, receptionists help patients to access the right services, assist with keeping health records accurate and up-to-date, and ensure that appointment bookings are well-managed.
 
The main responsibilities of the role include:
  • Greeting and directing patients.
  • Dealing with requests for information, and managing problems and complaints with the utmost discretion and strictest confidentiality.
  • Answering the telephone lines promptly and professionally taking and passing on accurate messages by task or email as appropriate. At the request of the GPs, return telephone calls on their behalf.
  • Making appointments, assessing and redirecting patient queries over the telephone and via e-consults using the surgery's computerise system.
  • Accepting, issuing and handing out prescriptions, letters, completed forms, specimen bottles, etc.
  • Advising patients of practice procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Managing Partners, colleagues, patients and outside bodies.
  • Registering new patients.
About the Candidate
We are looking for a receptionist to join our busy practice team and help make a positive impact on our local community. We would welcome applications from organised, adaptable, and friendly individuals, who are keen to help us provide high levels of customer service and have the following attributes:
  • Excellent communication skills, with a clear and polite telephone manner;
  • Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times;
  • Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations;
  • Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet";
  • Strong IT and administration skills;
  • Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable.
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.

South Street Surgery operates from three premises in the town of Bishops Stortford, providing services for about 23,500 patients. We work closely with the other local practices in Stort Valley and Villages PCN to develop our vision for the future of primary care services in this area.
